Look, we're not gonna pretend we've got all the answers - but we're sure as hell trying. For us, sustainability isn't some marketing gimmick. It's how we work, think, and push boundaries every single day.
There's a ton of studios out there slapping "green" on everything and calling it a day. We dig deeper than that. When a client walks through our door at 425 University Avenue, they're not getting a cookie-cutter eco-package.
Every site's different. Every building tells us something unique about what it needs. We listen to the land, study the sun paths, measure wind patterns, check local materials - yeah, it takes longer, but that's the whole point.
Before we even think about mechanical systems, we design spaces that naturally work with the environment. Orientation, thermal mass, natural ventilation - the basics done brilliantly.
Greywater systems, rainwater harvesting, permeable surfaces - we treat every drop like it matters because honestly, it does.
Local sourcing when possible, recycled content always considered, and full lifecycle analysis. We're tracking embodied carbon like hawks.
Smart systems that learn and adapt. Solar when it makes sense, geothermal where applicable, and always aiming for net-zero or better.
We measure everything because you can't improve what you don't track. Here's where we stand this year:
Compared to baseline code compliance
Through smart fixtures and harvesting
Construction waste recycled or reused
Sourced within 500km radius
We're proud of these, but they're not the endgame - they're proof we're moving in the right direction.
Four team members with LEED AP credentials, specializing in Building Design + Construction
Two certified designers bringing ultra-low energy standards to Canadian climate challenges
Currently pursuing certification on two residential projects - the toughest green standard out there
Because sustainability isn't just about the planet - it's about the people inside too
Transparency matters. Here's where we're not perfect yet:
We're getting better at calculating and reducing it, but concrete and steel are tough nuts to crack. Working on more mass timber projects to shift this.
Yeah, sustainable features can cost more upfront. We're constantly finding ways to make green design accessible without compromising performance.
Designed performance vs. actual performance - it's a real issue. That's why we're doing more post-occupancy monitoring and learning from it.
Our studio's kind of a playground for new ideas. Some work, some don't, but we keep pushing.
Building sustainably isn't just about individual projects. We're active in Toronto's green building community, sharing what we learn and learning from others.
Got a project that needs a sustainable approach? Or maybe you're just curious about what's possible? Either way, we'd love to talk. No greenwashing, no BS - just honest conversation about how to make buildings that actually respect the world we live in.
